ARTHUR, a six-foot-tall Siberian brown bear, has been given a thorough dental check up by Simon Allen and his colleagues from Stricklands Dental Fitness Centre in Haslemere.
They paid a visit to Haslemere Museum recently to treat their very special patient.
They wanted to check all was well as Stricklands has taken on the sponsorship of Arthur, the museum’s mascot, through the Adopt an Object scheme.
The scheme invites companies and individuals to sponsor an artefact of their choice from the museum’s collection – either from the galleries or the reserve collection – for a one to three-year period, and adoptions are available at a cost of £50 upwards.
Those going through the unusual adoption process receive a special certificate and their name is displayed alongside their chosen artefact, as well as on the museum’s website.
As an independent institution, the museum relies on supporters like Stricklands to continue its award-winning community service.
The Adopt an Object scheme is an innovative way to support the work of the museum and promote public engagement with the collections.
