ORGANISERS of the renowned Wisborough Green 12-hour lawnmower race have been forced to cancel this year’s event.
The race, which has taken centre stage on the summer sporting madness calendar for many years, was due to take place at Five Oaks, near Billingshurst, overnight from 8pm on August 11.
But chairman of the British Lawnmower Racing Association Peter Hammerton told the Observer organisers had reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the event.
He said the heavy rain over the last two months had made ground conditions difficult not only for competitors but also for visitors and parking arrangements.
In addition more heavy rain was forecast.
