THE Fernhurst News celebrated its tenth anniversary with a party held for all involved in its production.
To celebrate the achievement, the founders of the parish-wide magazine were joined at the celebrations by distributors, contributors, designers, printers and the editorial committee at the recreation ground pavillion.
Noel Tonkin, standing in for the chairman of the magazine, Carla Barnes, welcomed all the guests and praised the success of the magazine which now ‘stands on its own two feet’ with no help from grants or subsidies.
Julia Roxan explained how the magazine had been built to become a source of information and interest for Fernhurst residents. The magazine includes regular reports from all the clubs and societies, a monthly village diary, reports from councillors and a section from the church.
A special cake had been baked for the occasion which Noel and Julia cut together and all the volunteers were thanked. Now an editorial committee of Carla Barnes, Noel Tonkin, Mary Oddi and the Rev Nick Haigh, designer Marion Colegate and treasurer Richard Chapman, ensure the annual ten copies of the Fernhurst News are out on time every month.
