STREETS in Petworth will be closed to traffic soon for a food and wine festival.

On the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, September 22-23, pedestrians will be able to wander through Lombard Street and the Market Square and see a wide range of events and demonstrations, including a continental-style street market and street entertainment.

Jackie Tudor, chairman of the Petworth Business Association, said: “Petworth has something for everyone and our very first food and wine festival will be a particularly wonderful time
to visit.”

Visitors from Petworth’s twin towns in Italy and France – San Quirico D’Orcia and Ranville – will give food demonstrations.

Indian cooking demonstrations will be given by Meghdoot’s in the
Market Square.

There will also be a high tea served at Tiffins Tea Shop in the High Street, a barbecue lunch at The Star on Saturday and a spit roast at the Angel Inn on Sunday.

A wide range of wines will also be available from local specialists Upperton Winery and Hennings Wine Merchants.

A competition will also be held to find the perfect Petworth Cake – one in which taste, ingredients and character most personify Petworth and its surroundings.
