ENJOY the beautiful scenery at Petworth House and Park this weekend (September 28-29) with your four-legged friends.

The second annual Spot the Spaniel event is taking place from 11am–4pm on Saturday and Sunday, with working dog demonstrations, stalls and the chance to enter a fun dog show.

Visitors can browse stalls offering a range of country crafts and pet supplies, with everything from homemade dog biscuits to handmade toys on offer. There will also be the chance to meet local dog clubs and canine charities. Children can take part in spaniel craft
activities and the whole family can have a go at scurries and
games.

Non-spaniel breeds are also welcome!

Spaniels have a long history at Petworth House – they were the favoured pets of the third Earl of Egremont (1751-1837) and still feature around the house today. Young visitors are challenged to spot toy spaniels hiding in the rooms, and spaniels can be seen in many paintings throughout the house.

Sunday will see the Spot the Spaniel fun being held alongside the Canine Partners’ Purple Run, a 5km Wag and Walk through Petworth Park, raising funds for canine partners.

Walkers and runners from all over the area are invited to join in. There will be a demonstration of what the amazing dogs can do to help a person with disabilities as well as stalls and refreshments on
the day.

Canine Partners is a Heyshott-based charity that trains assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities including civilians and members of HM Armed Forces.

The dogs are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and getting help in an emergency.

The Sunday Wag and Walk starts at 11am, and all ages are welcome. Adults cost £10, children £5.

The entry fee covers a dog treat, hairy headband and a finisher’s medal.
