Petworth play park is finally ready

The controversial new play park at Hampers Common has finally dried out after parts of it sat unusable in a muddy bog behind fencing for several months.

Chairman of Petworth Town Council Chris Kemp said he had met drainage experts to discuss work to ensure the ground does not return to a quagmire this winter. He said: “It is being well used and now we are tidying up final matters to get the project finished.”

Neville Fox said most of the remedial work had been carried out apart from the relaying of matting which had not been possible in the wet weather.

Councillors agreed to pay the contractor the full cost of the work after withholding a portion because work had not been done.

They have also agreed to pay £500 for the extended hire of fencing.

But they are asking for further details of the £2,000 invoiced for the removal of the existing play equipment in Rosemary’s Gardens.
