THE skies cleared bang on cue as around 300 people sat down for a diamond jubilee street party in the Market Square.
They began the day with a service at St Mary’s Church where the address was given by Lord Egremont. The service was then followed by an organ recital.
Then at midday Petworth Town Band heralded the start of the historic celebrations in the Market Square.
There were street entertainers, balloon magicians and gallopers for the children as older guests sat in the sunshine recalling 60 years of the Queen’s reign, listening to the music of Chi Jazz and watching performances by Four Street Theatre.
