The man accused of murdering great-grandfather Donald Lock in Findon, has made his first appearance in crown court.

Currently in custody at HMP Lewes, Matthew Daley appeared via a video link at Hove Crown Court (July 21).

Daley, 34, of St Elmo Road, Worthing, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.

Mr Lock, who lived in Worthing, died following an incident after getting out of his car in the wake of a crash with another vehicle on the A24, near Findon, on Thursday evening (July 17).

Her Honour Judge Shani Barnes said Daley would next appear before the court on September 25, where he will enter his plea.

She said to Daley: “You will be back at this court on September 25.”

Daley’s defence, Mr Barry Cheeseman, said there were ‘clear psychiatric and mental health issues in this case’ and a psychiatric report was expected to be completed by September 21.

The trial, which could start around October 9, is expected to last around ten days.
