Police appeal after Petworth shed fire

A PETWORTH woman who believes a fire which badly damaged a new shed in the garden of her South Grove home, was started deliberately, has appealed for information.

Kerry Davies, her husband Adam and their four children were away on holiday in the New Forest when they were called by a neighbour to say the shed had been damaged in a fire in the early hours of bank holiday Monday.

Mrs Davies said the blaze had badly damaged part of the new shed built as a sewing room for her and a base for her husband’s work as a groundsman. It had also destroyed fabrics and her sewing machine. In addition an old shed beside it was completely destroyed.

“We have come back shocked and upset to find this damage,” said Mrs Davies. “If anyone saw anything suspicious we would like to know.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said police were appealing for information following the fire which was reported at 2.50am on Monday, May 7.

“Police are investigating what may have caused the fire,” said the spokesman.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 147 of 7/5 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
