Top civil servant Rachel Sandby-Thomas, who lives near Lodsworth, has been listed among those receiving a Queen’s New Year honour.
Mrs Sandby-Thomas has been made a Companion of the Order of the Bath for her services to the department for business, innovation and skills where she is solicitor and director general, legal, people and communications. She has held the post since March 2008.
Mrs Sandby-Thomas had worked as a group head in the then department of trade and industry between 2004 and 2006, before moving to head up the advisory lawyers at HMRC. Other departments she has advised since joining the government legal service in 1993 include the treasury, cabinet office, the Attorney General’s office, the department of work and pensions and the department of health.
She joined the legal service from the City where she qualified as a solicitor with Linklaters and spent a further three-and-a-half years with the firm in Hong Kong and the litigation department in London.
