Top jobs to go in management restructure at Chichester District Council

A new management team structure at Chichester District Council (CDC) will see the top jobs trimmed from ten to seven posts.

The new structure will be implemented in 2018 and will save the council £232,000 a year.

Currently the team consists of chief executive Diane Shepherd, two executive directors Paul Over and Steve Carvell and seven heads of service.

Under the new system one executive director will be lost and the seven heads of service will become five service directors.

Head of contract services Rod Darton is to retire from his post later this month.

Steve Hansford, head of community services and executive director Steve Carvell will leave at the end of March 2018.

The remaining executive director Paul Over, will be focussing on the emerging Southern Gateway project in Chichester, one of the biggest regeneration projects ever seen in the city,

Diane Shepherd said: “Although the council is losing some very experienced and well-respected senior staff, the new management team has been preparing for its new role over the last four years. I have every confidence that the council will continue to operate as a high performing, well managed council under the new team.”

Leader of CDC Tony Dignum said: “Since May 2013, we have exceeded our target to make £2.4m of savings. Instead, through savings and the generation of income, we reached a total of £3.6m. We achieved this without making cuts to front line services and have still continued to invest in services and facilities, including building the Grange Leisure Centre, providing additional community grants, and developing back to work schemes.”
