Polling stations across West Sussex closed to people casting votes in today’s general election at 10pm.

After people still in the queue have cast their votes the ballot boxes will be delivered to each constituency count.

First the number of votes in each ballot box will be checked, postal votes will be verified, and then counting will take place.

Results for the constituencies in West Sussex are expected to be announced between 3am and 6am tomorrow (Friday May 8).

Both the Horsham and Arundel and South Downs constituency counts will be held at Bluecoats Sports and Leisure Centre in Christ’s Hospital near Horsham, while both Worthing West and East Worthing and Shoreham constituencies will be counted at Lancing Leisure Centre.

Votes from Mid Sussex will be counted at the Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill, Crawley’s will take place at the K2 Leisure Centre, the Bognor and Littlehampton count is at Arun Leisure Centre, while Chichester’s is happening at Westgate Leisure Centre.

Once all the general election results are declared the focus will then shift to district, borough and parish elections, which are due to be announced from Friday afternoon into Saturday.
