THE NEW polo season opens at Cowdray Park Polo Club on April 28 and the club has announced a full programme of low, medium and high goal polo and the introduction of two new tournaments.
The first major fixture of the 2012 season will be on Saturday, May 19, when England takes on the United States for the St Regis International Cup, the first of the UK’s three senior home internationals of 2012.
The highlight of the summer, the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup tournament, opens on June 19, with more than 40 matches in prospect in the run-up to the final on Sunday, July 15.
The fabulous golden trophy, contested at Cowdray Park since 1956, is the most coveted prize in polo.
During the first weekend of the tournament, the club will host the South Downs Polo Day and its feature match, the Midhurst Town Cup.
For the majority of the season, admission to polo matches is free on weekday afternoons.
At weekends or on bank holidays there is an admission charge of £5 per person.
For all weekday matches of the Gold Cup tournament, there is also a £5 admission charge.
Last season, a total of 515 polo matches were played at Cowdray Park and 2012 is expected to be similarly busy.
