A FUNDRAISING golf day in aid of the Royal British Legion 2014 Poppy Appeal raised £6,000.
The event, held at Cowdray Park Golf Club for the fourth year running, has now raised a total of £20,000.
A record 25 teams of three players took part in a Texas Scramble tournament played on a rather damp and drizzly morning, but there was still some excellent golf played and the event was greatly enjoyed by all.
The tournament was followed by lunch in the clubhouse which led into the prize-giving.
Arthur Douglas-Nugent, who had organised the tournament with Jon Aslett from Rogate and Ian McNeil from Petworth, thanked Michael O’Brien of Park House Hotel and Spa for its most generous sponsorship and all the other individuals and local businesses which had given prizes and sponsored holes.
He also thanked Phil Stevens, manager of Cowrday Golf Club, for allowing the Royal British Legion sole use of the course, which he said was in ‘magnificent condition’, and all the teams taking part.
Michael O’Brien then thanked the organisers, saying: “Let’s hope we are all back again next year to raise even more.”
Results were: 1 The Cowdray Estate – Steve White, Guy Gooddens and Gerald Dixon; 2 Park House Hotel and Spa – Mark Jasper, Howard Kasey and Mark Upton; 3 Midhurst Lions –Andrew Balchin, Paul Eagle and Steven Unwins.
