FIFTY Royal British Legion members and award winners enjoyed an evening of sunshine in the Capron House garden at Midhurst when they held their annual Poppy awards party.

The awards were presented by Canon Peter Bruinvels, the Sussex county manager, who thanked everyone on behalf of the Royal British Legion for all their hard work.

He said Midhurst had maintained a fantastic record by increasing their Poppy Appeal total each year for the past ten years with the total for 2011 achieving an incredible £18,373.63. He added that without the dedication and hard work of all the Poppy Appeal volunteers the Legion would be unable to carry out its vital work. He extended his thanks again to all those involved.

The evening continued with a concert by the Sussex Band of the Royal British Legion (Horsham) when further members of the public joined in and enjoyed a varied programme of music with a picnic in the garden.
