Red Cross appeal for Petworth help

THE British Red Cross is looking for people in the Petworth area with some spare time next spring to help run fund-raising activities in the area.

During Red Cross Week from May 6 to 12 next year, the charity aims to raise £1 million for its life-saving work, both overseas and at home, and it needs community spirited volunteers to get involved and build on previous successes in Petworth.

The Red Cross hopes to find someone to volunteer as ‘Red Cross Week co-ordinator’, promoting and supporting fund-raising events in the community like bake sales, quiz nights, sponsored abseils, ‘dress in red’ days or any other activities people want to undertake. It also needs to recruit people with only a few hours to spare to help with bucket collections throughout the local community.

Claire Umney, senior community fund-raiser for the Red Cross in Sussex, said; “Red Cross Week is by far our busiest time when we do our best to get people to help by putting on fund-raising events or shaking a bucket. This year Petworth raised over £3,000, which was the highest total for Sussex, and we’re determined to beat that in 2012.

Anyone who thinks they could inspire a team of volunteers and the local community to dig even deeper in 2012, should contact Claire, Senior Community Fund-raiser for Sussex, on 01273 227800 / 07834 005761 or email cumney@redcross.org.uk.
