ROTHER Valley churches scooped major prizes at the Sussex Historic Churches ‘Ride & Stride’ awards ceremony in Chichester Cathedral.
The Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, Susan Pyper, presented the individual riders trophy to Luke Ullyot from St Bartholomew’s, Rogate.
Team Midhurst from St Mary Magdalene & St Denys took the team riders trophy, and the Woolbeding Wheelers - a mixed team from All Hallows Woolbeding and St James Stedham - were runners up.
It was a unique occasion for Midhurst vicar, the Rev Dave Willis whose parishes took the top two positions.
‘Ride & Stride’ takes place annually in September and last year raised £55,000, of which Midhurst area churches raised £6,125, a new high.
While St Mary’s Easebourne did not appear on the prize list riders raised £1,363.50. Other major contributors were St Margaret Fernhurst, £500, St Mary Magdalene & St Denys £745, St James, Stedham £761, All Hallows Woolbeding £1,921.50. Thanks went to all who not only raised funds but opened their churches.
This year’s event is on September 10
