Some 15,000 people sweltered in 30 degrees of sunshine at Cowdray Park as they watched the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Final.
They sheltered under a sea of pergolas and umbrellas as the Dubai team of Ali Albwardy battled it this afternoon (Sunday, July 21) out for the coveted trophy against Zacara, whose patron is British born Lyndon Lea.
Polo players and ponies crashed up and down the Cowdray Park polo lawn under the burning sun.
But not even the world’s greatest player ten goaler Adolfo Cambiaso playing for Dubai could hold off the Zacara side of Facundo Pieres - ten goaler - Lyndon Lea, Rodrigo Andrade - eight goals - and Matt Perry who is also British.
There was little Cambiaso, Facundo Pieres’ brother, seven goaler Nico, Alec White and Rashid Albwardy could do to hold them back.
After a 1-1 score line in the first chukka Zacara crept ahead and stayed ahead eventually winning by 11-8.
Among those watching were celebrity chef Raymond Blanc and Jodie Kidd.
