THE NAME of a former Midhurst Primary School pupil, who was killed in Afghanistan, will be inscribed on the town’s war memorial.

THE NAME of a former Midhurst Primary School pupil, who was killed in Afghanistan, will be inscribed on the town’s war memorial.

David O’Connor died last October, aged 27.

He was on his third tour in Afghanistan as a corporal in the Royal Marines.

At a meeting of Midhurst Town Council on Monday evening, councillors voted unanimously for an additional panel to be added to the memorial, upon which would be inscribed Afghanisan 2012, Marine David O’Connor.

It was agreed the cost of the addition would be paid for by Midhurst Town Council, Midhurst Town Trust and the Royal British Legion.

Corporal O’Connor was from 40 Commando Royal Marines.

He was killed on October 24, 2012, while on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

At the time of his death many people paid tribute, including former teachers at Midhurst Primary School.

His funeral took place in Havant.
