Special award for Rogate volunteer Cara

THERE was a full house at the village hall when Rogate rector Edward Doyle told the 18-year-old special guest: “Tonight, Cara West, this is your life.”

It was part of a special presentation evening organised by Midhurst Lions Club and Rogate Youth Club to celebrate Cara’s achievement in gaining her Lions Gold Standard certificate after she completed 100 hours of voluntary community work as part of her Lions Young Leader in Service award.

Cara’s family and friends, Rogate youth club leader, chairman, treasurer, helpers and members were there to join her, along with members of Midhurst Lions Club who organised a display of the work carried out by the group.

Everyone applauded as Lions’ chairman John Carver gave Cara her award, which she achieved despite a busy family life, school, college, Rogate youth club and other teenage pursuits.

The audience cheered as Mr Doyle told the story of Cara’s life from the ‘This is Your Life’ red book.

Gradually the significant people were gathered on to the stage, including Cara’s parents, grandparents, siblings, teacher, youth workers, and friends.

A buffet supper and special celebration cake followed.
