ANOTHER season of polo is under way in Midhurst, with much in store to please the crowds.
And there will be a special touch of polo glamour at Cowdray Park when players gather for the St Regis International Cup tomorrow (May 17).
It comes in the shape of six-goal polo player and Ralph Lauren model Nacho Figueras, who will be captaining the South American side to play against England in Cowdray Park’s forthcoming international match.
Figueras is also an ambassador for the St Regis Hotel and Resort group which is entering a sixth year of sponsorship of this high-profile fixture on the polo calendar.
Playing alongside Nacho Figueras will be one of the world’s few ten-goal players, Facundo Pieres, with the remaining two positions still un-named as the Observer goes to press.
England will be captained by seven-goal player Luke Tomlinson, with locally-based player James Beim, also seven goals, in the number three position.
Max Charlton (six goals) plays at number three and James Harper, also six goals will be playing at number two, making up an evenly-balanced 26-goal side, which is a higher handicap level than the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship.
The wealth of polo entertainment starts with the Young England side which includes Lord Cowdray’s nephew, George Pearson, who will play a morning match.
With a full day of top-level polo, quality trade stand shopping and a children’s mini funfair, this is a sporting occasion not to be missed.
Ticket entry is £15 per person, with two for one entry with the Midhurst and Petworth Observer voucher published in last week’s paper.
