FRUSTRATED Midhurst town councillors look set to push ahead with plans for much-needed coach parking in the town.
They have been desperate to find new space after the development of the new Grange left coach drivers with nowhere to park.
But they have been unable to get Stagecoach officers to the table to discuss their proposals.
They want to allow tourist coaches to stop at the Midhurst bus station to let passengers off and then park at Midhurst Rother College with agreement from the academy.
Chairman of the finance and general purposes committee Steve Morley told fellow councillors he had finally met Simon Tramaloni of Stagecoach to explain plans.
He reported: “Stagecoach would permit coaches to pull into the more northern of the two bus lanes and unload between ten and 25 minutes past each hour.
“It is possible they could return and collect one, two or three hours later.
But Mr Tramaloni stressed coaches cannot then wait for late passengers.”
Colin Hughes told the committee: “This is an unworkable scenario. Who is he to dictate these terms? It’s ridiculous.
“We should tell them what we are doing and let Chichester District Council (CDC) know as well as copying in West Sussex County Council.”
District councillor Gordon McAra said the bus station was owned by CDC and he had not been able to find a record of a contract with Stagecoach to use it.
“At the end of the day they seem to have simply acquired it and have no legal basis for what they are doing there.”
