THE count for the Chichester District Council is about to start in Westgate Leisure Centre.

Following a short break after last night’s general election result, counting will begin again for the district and parish elections.

It will start at 11am when staff will first count the ballot papers in the one seat wards, followed by the larger two and three seat wards including Selsey North, Southbourne, Chichester East, Chichester North and Chichester South.

The first results are expected around midday-1pm.

There are elections across 23 of the 29 wards in the Chichester district - six Tories are uncontested in six wards.

They are Boxgrove where Tory Henry Potter returns unopposed, Conservative John Ridd holds his seat at Donnington, fellow Tory Paul Jarvis is unopposed at North Mundham, Tricia Tull retains her Tory seat at Sidlesham, Conservative Simon Oakley face no opposition in Tangmere and veteran politician Mark Dunn holds Westbourne for the Tories.

Elsewhere, there will be hard-fought seats by all five main parties as well as an increasing number of independents.

Following the district council results, staff will begin work again on the parish council ballot boxes.
