POLICE are hoping people will recognise distinctive clocks which were stolen from an antiques shop in Petworth.
The break-in at Alexis Antiques on East Street happened overnight between September 19 and September 20.
The clocks, which were some of the items stolen, include; Jaeger le Coutre Marina clock worth £1500, Ormulu and Porcelain flower clock worth £1500, a Louis XVth style Mantel clock £1950, Drocourt carriage clock worth £3500 and a harpist mantel clock worth £2250.
A number of other high-value items were also stolen from the antiques shop.
Also taken was a singing bird music box made of blue enamel worth £2250, a Ruby and ‘Ormulu’ Goblet valued at £500, two porcelain miniatures, an 18 carot men’s watch on a gilt stand with a white enamel face.
A pair of 19 carot earings made of amethyst and gilt, as well as a Scottish brooch, a collection of small ivory chess pieces, some of which are dyed red and a French jet necklace were also stolen in the theft.
Detective constable Jon Tizzard said: “These clocks are extremely distinctive and unusual so hopefully anyone would recognise them if they saw them being sold elsewhere. All the items are worth a lot of money and the owner of the antiques is hoping they will be found and returned.
“Anyone with information about the theft or knows where these items are is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0033 of 20/9.”
