Police and firefighters face off for Canine Partners

FIFTEEN police officers went head-to-head in the boxing ring with 15 firefighters to raise £12,000 for the Heyshott-based charity Canine Partners.

The event, held at the Hilton Brighton Metropol hotel, attracted hundreds of spectators including the chief constable of Sussex, Martin Richards, and the fire service’s chief fire officer and chief executive, Des Prichard.

The combatants were matched according to weight and height and each pair boxed three one-minute rounds to the cheer of the crowd and pumping dance music.

The overall result was a draw and a repeat event is planned for November.

Canine Partners trains assistance dogs for injured service personnel.
