Police investigate theft of dogs from Lynchmere farm

SEVEN dogs were stolen from a farm in Lynchmere.

Sussex Police have teamed up with their Hampshire counterparts to probe the theft of the pets between Friday, January 11, and Monday, January 14.

Two springer spaniels and a cocker spaniel were stolen between 7.30am and 8.30am on Friday, and three terriers and a cocker spaniel were taken between 5pm on Monday and 7.30am on Tuesday, January 15.

“We have been working closely with Hampshire Constabulary following a spate of similar dog thefts in Hampshire and are following a number of lines of enquiry which I am unable to discuss any further at this stage due to operational sensitivities,” said Sergeant Jon Chapman of Chichester District Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Police will be maintaining high visibility patrols in the area, monitoring any suspicious activity and officers will be speaking to any local people who may be concerned.

“This is the only instance of theft of working dogs in Chichester district that we have been made aware of.”

Officers are appealing for anyone with information regarding the thefts, or anyone who saw anyone acting suspiously in the Lynchmere area, to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 168 of 15/1 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

For the full story, see this week’s Observer - out on Thursday, January 17.
