New group launched to campaign against both A27 options and northern bypass

The new transport group, Chichester Moves On, have organised guided walks to show the current A27 options and to explain why they oppose both the current proposals and the northern bypass option.

Jenny Cole, the forum’s secretary, said: “We want Chichester to be an accessible city fit for the 21st century – a city that offers convenience and flexibility to everyone who lives and works here – a healthier environment with less fumes belching from slow moving engines all day long around Chichester’s roads.”

The forum will be developing proposals for: clean, cheap, fast and convenient public transport, safer routes for cycling and easier ways to get in and out of Chichester.

Jenny continued: “The Highways England options for the A27 will cost between £47 million and £280 million and take nearly four years just to speed up through traffic by a few minutes.

“We want to invest instead in an integrated transport system for Chichester and the areas around, to make this a better, safer, greener place for residents and workers.”

The first walk will go to Stockbridge roundabout and will launch on Sunday, November 20 at 2pm from the Chichester railway station.
