Traffic wardens have been accused of spoiling Diamond Jubilee celebrations by slapping parking tickets on cars while Midhurst held its street party.
Some parking places had been lost in Church Hill where tables and chairs had been set up and some 700 people gathered for the historic celebrations, despite the threat of heavy rain. Both party-goers and residents of Church Hill had parked in the surrounding streets.
But while the celebrations were going on, Chichester District Council’s (CDC) civil enforcement officers went on patrol handing out some 20 to 25 parking tickets.
Chairman of the town council’s finance and general purposes committee Steve Morley told members this week: “We thought the weather would try to dampen our spirits, but it was the civil enforcement officers who came to dampen them instead.”
