Trotton resident’s birthday surprise

A TREAT was in store for Audrey Constant, one of Trotton’s most senior residents, when she celebrated her 90th birthday.

A keen horsewoman in her younger days, her recent admission she had not ridden out from the family farm and on to Trotton Common for 65 years brought a quick response from her nearby neighbour, Charles Homan.

He organised for Mrs Constant to borrow his mother’s New Forest pony, Barclay, and spend a couple of hours enjoying the scenery from the saddle, with Mr Homan at her side as company on her special day.

Audrey, who has worked as a gaucho in Uruguay, was two years old when she moved to Trotton, where her father farmed for 40 years.
