WEST Sussex Fire and Rescue service say a large part of a Petworth restaurant was damaged by heat and smoke.
Firefighters put out the blaze in an Indian restaurant in Petworth on Friday (September 12), while police closed the roads around the area.
The fire service say 20 per cent of the building was damaged by fire and 80 per cent was damaged by heat and smoke.
Police closed nearby roads as West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended to the fire in the Basmati, a large three-storey building in Market Square. Four pumps attended the scene.
It took ten sets of breathing apparatus, six hose reels, three thermal imaging cameras and three pressure ventilation fans to make the scene safe.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
Sussex Police shut East Street and Middle Street to traffic.
There was also a two-car crash at 9.55am on the A272 at Foxhill, causing traffic in the area.
Police and the ambulance service were at the scene.
