UPDATE: Police appeal for witnesses after double A285 fatality

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two women died in a car crash on the A285.

Around 10.50pm on Saturday (September 28), a silver Volkswagen Golf was travelling north on the A285 at Upwaltham, between Petworth and Chichester.

It turned right into an unnamed road, opposite Selhurstpark Road, across the path of a blue Honda Civic.

Two female passengers from London in the Golf, aged 74 and 75, died from their injuries.

The 85-year-old male driver of the Golf and another 74-year-old female passenger, also both from London, suffered serious injures and were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton.

The Honda Civic caught fire. The 28-year-old man from Chichester, who was driving the Honda, suffered whiplash.

He was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester, with his male passenger, 25, who also had whiplash.
