CYCLISTS gathered at Fernhurst for the start of a trial of endurance which took them across the Midhurst and Petworth area.
Unexpected sunshine gave an added warmth to the event on Sunday, April 14, organised by one of the top time trialling teams in the South the ...a3crg’s.
Their spring time trial started and ended in Fernhurst.
Riders started at one minute intervals from 8.01am for the 37 kilometre route through Midhurst , Petworth, Northchapel, Haslemere and home and many completed within the hour before other people were up or the roads crowded.
It was, as one exhausted ride commented: “One of the most difficult time trials there is of that length – it is all hills – and going down is quick so it feels as if you are always going up. And the potholes! With thin racing tyres you feel every little bump! It is hard work.”
At the headquarters at the end of the trial riders were rewarded with tea and an excellent selection of home made cakes.
After their refreshments the organiser of the Fernhursdt time trial, John Glaysher, who had also ridden the race, thanked all those who had given their time as marshalls, time keepers, scorers, registration, catering and more. John also presented the prizes which ranged from money, to wine and chocolates to the winners in each category.
