Victory in Midhurst ‘hideous’ chairs war

WEST Sussex County Council has been congratulated for listening to criticism and taking action over furniture in its new library.

The county council’s register office moved from Capron House in Midhurst to the new Grange Centre, taking with it the furniture from its old home.

But town councillor Mark Purves said he was not prepared to take the ‘horrid, hideous old brown chairs’ sitting down, especially when volunteer-led Rother Valley Together, which runs day care for the elderly at the new centre, had been forced to recover its chairs in the corporate colours.

He told town councillors: “I am pleased to tell you the chairs are gone and have been replaced with new ones which fit in with the colour system and toe the line – congratulations for listening.”
