A 31-year-old driver had to be cut out of the wreckage of his car around 11am today (April 15) after a crash on the A272 at Petworth.
Firefighters from Chichester and Midhurst used specialist equipment to free the man who was taken to St Richards hospital.
A police spokesman at the scene of the accident near the A272 junction with Kingspit Lane, said the man was travelling west along the A272 when he lost control of the vehicle and spun off the road into a ditch.
Firefighters cut away the roof of the black Vauxhall to rescue the driver who had suffered lower back and spinal injuries.
The A272 was closed by police in both directions for more than an hour, but has now reopened (2.45pm).
