IT was the 20th anniversary of Veuve Clicquot’s partnership with Cowdray Park’s Gold Cup and spectators at the prestigious final celebrated in style yesterday afternoon (Sunday, July 20).

More than 2,000 visitors flocked to the renowned polo lawns to see Dubai take on newcomers to the British Open Polo championships King Power and its patron ‘Top’ Srivaddhanapra, the Thai owner of Leicester City Football Club.

As spectators around the polo ground enjoyed their picnics in sweltering heat, celebrities gathered in the Veuve Clicquot marquee.

They included Jodie Kidd, supermodel and TV personality who was recently a contender on the Celebrity Masterchef.

Jodie relaxed in the sunshine with her fiance former solder David Blakeley and her two year old son Vianini whose father is Jodie’s ex boyfriend, the polo player Andrea Vianini.

Joining them in the celebrity polo line-up was model and television presenter Alexa Chung, Tinie Tempah, Zafar Rushdie and Natalie Coyle.

While the celebrities enjoyed their bubbly in the VIP marquee, members of the public had the chance, at a price, to enjoy another VIP picnic experience laid on by Veuve Clicquot as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.

Under canvas and on plush black and yellow cushions they drank magnums of champagne and ate their lunch as they waited for play to begin.

The threat of rain held off for the match and the two teams rode onto the lawn in searing heat for the start of the match. There are just eight of the highest ranking ten goal polo players in the world.

Six of them took part in this year’s gold cup tournament and two rode out for Sunday’s final.

Gonzalito Pieres starred for King Power alongside 0 goal patron ‘Top’, seven goaler Marcos Di Paola and Pablo Llorente at five goals.

For Dubia the ten goal star was a Cowdray Park favourite Adolfo Cambiaso playing alongside two goal patron Rashid Albwardy, seven goaler Diego Cavanagh and the only English player on the field up and coming Ali Paterson at three goals.
