PLANS for a new Waitrose store on the site of the former Grange leisure centre in Midhurst could be unveiled to members of the public before Christmas.

Spokesman for the supermarket James Armstrong said Waitrose was working with Kimberley Developments to develop a proposal for a new supermarket on the old Grange site.

“The aim is to invite local people to view the plans at a public exhibition in Midhurst before Christmas.”

He said following consultation with the public, their comments would be analysed: “The people who live and breathe the place will really help to shape the plan,” he said.

When the comments had been taken on board, Mr Armstrong said, it was hoped to submit a planning application to the South Downs National Park Authority in the new year.

“We are excited by the possibility of coming to Midhurst and look forward to sharing our plans.”

Kimberley Developments is also finalising negotiations for the land with Chichester
District Council.
