HER entire family were there to celebrate when Rita Morley reached her 100th milestone.
Rita who has been a resident at Pendean Nursing Home in West Lavington for the last 16 months was joined by her son Howard and his wife Janet as well as Howard and Janet’s three children Louise and twin sisters Simone and Michelle.
In addition Rita’s great grand children were all there to see her blow out the candles on her birthday cake.
They are Michelle’s son Daniel, Simone’s daughter Cerys and Louise’s three children Jade, William and Emily.
Other family members came from all over the country.
Rita was born and brought up in Guernsey where she met and married her husband Harry.
But she and Harry managed to get onto the last boat leaving Guernsey with other island evacuees before the German invasion in June 1940.
They settled in Finchley where their son Howard was born and later moved to Hayes where Rita worked in the post office.
Harry died 16 years ago but Rita stayed on in the family home until she came to live with Michelle in West Lavington 16 months ago.
She has now settled into the BUPA Pendean Nursing Home close to Michelle’s home.
