Young mums Taba Allfrey and Heather Markfort are taking the plunge with their first fundraising event on Saturday when they hold a charity fun day at Wisborough Green Village Hall.
Taba, from Kirdford, and Heather, who lives in Wisborough Green, are taking over the hall for the whole day and organising a host of activities from Zumba to afternoon tea in aid of International Women’s Day.
“It’s the first time either of us have ever done anything like this,” said Taba. “But we have always been interested in working towards fundraising for women. I used to teach basic skills in a South London community and Heather has been a Samaritan.”
She said the money raised from Saturday’s event would go to Oxfam, which has a specific campaign to support women.
“They ring-fence money raised at events such as ours and use it to benefit women, for instance supporting Bengalese communities where there is a poor history of education for women. They help to educate the women who can then open schools for the children.”
Taba said the aim was also to support women in the immediate area.
