Chichester district Autumn Cycle Challenge

PEOPLE throughout the Chichester district are being urged to get on their bikes for the first Autumn Cycle Challenge, launching today (Saturday, September 29).

Among the prizes is a £500 bike from Hargroves Cycles and cycling vouchers, while new cyclists can win a meal for two at Carluccios and Brasserie Blanc.

The challenge will run for two weeks from today to Sunday, October 14.

A Chichester District Council spokesman said it had been organised following numerous requests from organisations who took part in a similar challenge in May.

“The cycling can be done anywhere, anytime, for fitness, fun or to work,” he said.

The council’s cycling promotion officer, Alister Linton-Crook, said: “There has been an increased interest in cycling across the district this summer. We want to continue this and, hopefully, inspire even more people, of all ages and abilities, to get out on their bikes this autumn.”

Businesses can hire bikes for staff during the challenge thanks to Summit Bikes of Selsey.

For details, call 01243 697547 or email steve@summitbikes.co.uk

A partnership between the council, the Cyclists’Touring Club and Challenge for Change, the challenge is funded by a grant from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Anyone who would like to take part can cycle for just 10 minutes and register at www.chichestercyclechallenge.org.uk
