Swan Inn at Fittleworth about to fly again

FITTLEWORTH residents have been left without a pub in the village since the shutters went up abruptly at the Swan Inn early in the New Year.

But now owners Enterprise Inns say experienced pub operators are poised to take over the reins.

Anthony Wyman, his wife Deborah and son Charlie are preparing to open the bar on Saturday, March 9.

“We will then be looking to recruit a chef to get the food side right,” said Anthony.

A spokesman for Enterprise said: “We would like to invite people to show their support for the return of their village pub by dropping in to experience the welcome from the Wyman family.”

She said the information given to Fittleworth parish councillors about a rat infestation at the empty pub was not true. It is almost two years since the historic Swan Inn re-opened after a facelift costing some ÂŁ500,000.

The new faces then were the award winning White family behind Whites Bar and Kitchen at Steyning – George White, 26, his brothers Alex and Dominic and parents Martina and David.

But they closed the Fittleworth pub on January 14.

The Bar and Kitchen and The Fountain pub, at Ashurst, both run by the family, have also closed.
