WEAVING is bringing a new lease of life to the collapsed spire of Chichester Cathedral this month.
Tapestry artist LouLou Morris is the cathedral’s artist-in-residence throughout February as part of a collaborative project with West Dean College.
LouLou has built a loom in the transept and visitors can see her at work there for most of the month as she weaves a new tapestry, Rebuilder.
The title of the piece refers to the theme of LouLou’s residency – the collapse of the Cathedral spire in 1861 and its subsequent rebuilding.
The finished piece will be 90cm by 140cm and LouLou is aiming to weave 10cm square a day. “Weaving is a slow art in a fast world, that’s the joy of it for me: it is completely engrossing,” she said.
LouLou is also running workshops for schools and students and a family activity day from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesday, February 20.
LouLou can be found in the cathedral from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm today and on February 14, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27 and 28.
On other days, she is likely to be found at the cathedral from 3pm to 6pm.
