A great evening

What a great evening at the Observer Community Awards last Monday.

Winning Biggest Contributor to the Arts (group) was a surprise to us, particularly against such strong competition.

We did not even realise we had been nominated, let alone supported by so many readers in the Observer area!

With a team of over 50 volunteers and just a small team of staff, we are grateful for the recognition from local people for all the hard work put into keeping the centre operating on a day-to-day basis.

You could not wish for a better team of volunteers.

They are the sort of people you would want at your shoulder if you were fighting in the trenches!

It is possible for people of all ages to get involved in music, song and dance at the centre, via the many groups and classes we have based upon the Regis Centre.

Ballet, tap, street dance, glee, musical theatre and other classes are available, with gallery space for art or photography.

Next year we have a full programme of live entertainment, including two ballets, two chamber concerts, opera, and musical theatre.

Of course we also have pop, rock, comedy, big band, and other forms of professional entertainment.

At the moment we are proud to be running the uniquely British art form that is traditional pantomime, with Cinderella.

Thank you once again to the people for their support, and the Observer for initiating this special award programme.
