I FEEL that I must comment on the item about the national anthem and the remark by the National Association of Head Teachers
that we must not offend the residents in the UK who have anthems of their own.
They live in the UK, for God’s sake, and they should be singing our anthem. I admit it is a bit of a dirge and maybe we should go for a more rousing refrain, but until then let us all sing it with gusto.
I think that all children in Sussex should be taught Sussex By The Sea: that is a stirring number and I just love blasting it out. Thinking on, I might just write an anthem for Lavant and insist the school sings it at assembly each morning.
