LETTER: A27 routes is already decided

So at long last Highways England informs us that we can have a say on the A27 options I suppose that as residents we should be thankful that they have finally acknowledged us.

There is no doubt in my mind that Highways England have already decided on the route, isn’t that how democracy works in this country, throw the peasants a few crumbs to keep them happy and then do exactly what has already been agreed from the top.

There is no question that the A27 must be improved, it is long overdue and delays and congestion are no longer just at peak times but almost continually throughout each day, residents on the south side will be almost prisoners in their own homes at weekends from now until October and we must spare a thought for those who travel long distances for a day beside the sea only to find that most of their day will be spent in traffic queues.

Whatever decision is reached I hope that it will not be just a quick and totally inadequate fix.

The A27 between the Fishbourne and Havant roundabouts is a prime example of quick fixing, covering a concrete road with an inadequate amount of Tarmac was an unbelievably crass decision, saving money at the time has proved to be a very expensive exercise as the road surface is constantly in need of repair costing more than had it been done properly in the first place.

Hopefully the public exhibitions will be well attended, it really is a chance for us all to try to influence the final decision.
