LETTER: Consultation ignores Bognor

Readers in the greater Bognor area, which consists of a population of almost 64,000 people (from Wikipedia and 2011 census) might be interested or like me concerned at the lack of a democratic approach adopted by Highways England (HE) when mounting the A27 consultation.

We cannot get far from much of the Bognor area without getting onto the A27, often at the Chichester bypass, yet we are not included in the consultation exercise although whenever we travel we are affected by the issues on the A27.

These are the sites of the exhibition:

Saturday 6 Aug: North Mundham Community Centre, PO20 1LA

Tuesday 9 Aug: Chichester Baptist Church, Sherborne Road, PO19 3AW

Where is Bognor in this array of large population centres such as North Mundham and Boxgrove?

Further sites to collect paper versions of the Consultation Brochure and drop off points to get it back to HE are at:-

Chichester City Council Offices, North Street, PO19 1LQ

Chichester Library, Tower Street, PO19 1QJ

Chichester District Council, East Pallant, PO19 1DY

Chichester Tourist Information Centre, Tower Street, PO19 1QH

West Sussex County Council Office, County Hall, PO19 1RQ

Witterings Library, East Wittering, PO20 8BT

Selsey Library, School Lane, PO20 9EH

Yet again the greater Bognor area is ignored completely, yet (the major conurbation of) Selsey is included as is (the City of) East Wittering!

Does Bognor even exist in the Highways England’s mind?

As shown Bognor had some 64,000 people in 2011 whilst Chichester had about 27,000 (from Wikipedia) yet by sensible democratic principles HE can select to completely ignore the concerns and issues of those who need to travel to and from Bognor, although it is almost 2.5 times bigger than Chichester!

If you feel this is wrong and want a say in what happens to the A27 please make your voice heard.
