The Good Samaritan

WHILE cycling home from Chichester last Thursday, I was asked by a chap walking his dog, Emily, along the canal path, if I could assist him to rescue a small coot,

I said yes I would, and by this time a friend had joined us.

He stripped down to his boxers and swam to the other side of the canal.

There he pulled the bird away from the bush, swam back and with the aid of Lyn’s tweezers, managed to free the fishing line that was firmly tangled around the leg.

This done, we praised him. What a man – he climbed out of the canal, dressed himself, thanked us for keeping an eye on his dog and went home.

If only there were more good and kind people around, the world would be a better place.
