ADUR District Council chairman Brenda Collard gives an insight into life at the local authority.
WELL, hello, everyone, in my Adur patch.

Sorry it has been a while since I last spoke to you all, but I have been busy.

Busy, that is, with raising funds for my chosen charity, RISE, formerly the Women's Refuge Project.

I have done two sponsored walks now, the first organised by RISE from Brighton Marina to Rottingdean in the summer, raising £220 for my efforts.

And the second was along the wet and windy seafront from Brooklands, East Worthing, accompanied by adorable Brownies from Lancing.

RISE

Refuges need all the financial help they can get to help women and children.

Anyone who knows me will know how I have been personally affected by domestic violence.

So, I am determined to do my bit and raise as much money as possible for RISE.

To help swell the coffers, I am organising a ladies-only fashion show at Lancing Parish Hall, with lots of great names such as Marks & Spencer, Principles, Debenhams and Oasis, plus some designer names and much more.

There are also some great prizes up for grabs in the raffle.

Tickets, £5 each, include cheese and wine and are available from Craig Morris on 01273 263023, or email craig.morris@worthing.gov.uk

Stars

The mayor of Worthing, Noel Atkins, and I went along to the Herald's Community Stars Awards ceremony.

Adur and Worthing councils sponsored the best volunteer category.

I had a lovely chat with Fred Dinenage, who hosted the evening, and we agreed it was the most moving and humbling event.

I understand it is going to be repeated next year, which would be fabulous.

And talking of humbling, I paid my respects to those who gave their lives for us at the various Remembrance services in Adur.

Our thoughts were not only for past conflicts, but for those soldiers lost in Afghanistan, too.

Shopping

With Christmas not that far off now, I look forward to seeing many of you at the opening of the late-night Christmas shopping event in Lancing on Thursday, November 27.

All are invited, too, to my carol service on Wednesday, December 16, at 6.30pm at St Mary's Church, Shoreham.

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful support.
