Cricket: Bognor colts get within one game of glory

Bognor’s under-16 colts had a very successful Sussex Junior Cricket Festival.

They beat Stirlands by eight wickets with Ceri Marsh taking four for 17. The next day, they beat Worthing by nine wickets, with Ryan Maskell making 55* and Jamie Woolnough taking four for 19.

They had a winning draw against Chichester with Joe Ashmore scoring 78.

Bognor beat Brighton by 101 runs after Louis Paul (81) and Ryan Maskell (94) put on 96 for the first wicket.

Bognor qualified for the final by beating Chippingdales by 95 runs, taking seven wickets in the last eight overs. Louis Paul (31) and Ryan Maskell (74) put on 109 for the first wicket and Joe Ashmore added 62. Adam Robinson took three for 25 and Ceri Marsh four for 21.

The final was played in the beautiful grounds of Arundel Castle, but Bognor were missing two of their best players who had to play a Sussex under-18 academy game.

Bognor’s opponents were Cuckfield, who scored 173 for nine. Joe Cambridge (41) and Ben Canfield (54) top-scored and Louis Paul took three for 24.

Louis Paul (69) and Jack Condon (46) put on 81 for the third wicket but Bognor fell 30 short of their target.
