Cricket: Bognor slip to opening-day loss at Wisborough

Bognor were in trouble at 57 for five as they opened their Sussex division three west campaign at Wisborough Green - but a measured innings of 46 from Louis Paul saw Bognor to 123 all out.

Fine bowling from Byron Napper (6-42) and Ben Thatcher (4-17) did the damage for Wisborough Green.

Early strikes from Sam Taylor (2-13) and Jim Lee (2-25) brought Bognor back into the game but Napper completed a fine all-round performance by ending 37 not out to see Wisborough Green win by four wickets.

In the second XI game between the sides at Bognor, a battling innings from Ian Ashmore (57) was complemented by a more attacking knock from Graham Ball (47) as Bognor posted 209 for seven declared.

However, Wisborough Green counter-punched with an excellent knock of 118 from James Sadler and in the closing overs all three results were possible.

Sadler’s dismissal saw Wisborough Green shut up shop and their innings finished on 196 for eight, the game ending in a draw.
