Cricket: Nabid nabs six wickets on Aldwick debut

There were mixed fortunes for Aldwick’s first and second teams as the weather finally allowed them to play some West Sussex Invitation League cricket.

Aldwick v Ifield III

WS Invitation League div four

Summer finally arrived and Aldwick were able to fulfil their first league fixture of the season which featured a debut for Aldwick’s first-ever overseas player, Nabid Rahman.

Rahman showed his worth with figures of six for 16 from 11 overs. With good support from Ollie Smith (1-12) and John Young (2-7), Aldwick’s bowlers rolled over Ifield for just 38.

Only opener Samer Afiz (12) made double figures in the rout that ended in a victory for the home side by 88 runs.

Earlier, Aldwick’s openers Louis Paul (25) and Joel Lodge (8) gave the home side a steady start.

Paul batted well and the dependable Dean Stokes added a crucial 43 to the final total of 126 all out.

Ollie Smith (12) played his part at the end but the other home side’s batsmen were still trying to get to grips with their early-season form. Nevertheless, it was a victory and 24 points in the bag.

West Blanchington II v Aldwick II

Div eight

A disappointing display from Aldwick’s batsmen after a top-drawer bowling display from Alex Cooper (5-16), which included a hat-trick, gave the home side a victory by 44 runs.

Cooper carved up the Blanchington top order with a great spell and only Jignesh Agnihotri (42) and Rohan Agnihotri (19) at the end put up any resistance to the Aldwick bowling attack.

Andy Burtheshaw (2-47) and Adam Robinson (2-26) were good support for Cooper as the home side finished on a modest 142 all out.

In reply only Chris Redman (17*), Liam Hicks (13) and Andy Burtenshaw (14) offered some resistance as Aldwick capitulated to a disappointing 98 all out. The wickets were shared among the home side’s bowlers but best was Joseph Broun with three for 20.
